Apple Buys the Motion Capture Company Faceshift

Apple is reported to have acquired Faceshift, a motion capture startup that specializes in translating human faces onto digital avatars. Faceshift is based in Zurich and is best known for having worked on the upcoming “Star Wars” film, helping to bring the galaxy’s aliens to life.

Faceshift on its website says that it can “capture realistic and emotional facial expressions”  which are laeter demonstrated digitally. Well, this means, your smile in real life can actually quickly become the smile of your favorite character as it’s demonstrated on their website.

This technology is becoming increasingly popular, like Snapchat bought Looksery (that created a face modification app that launched on Kickstarter) and these features have now been integrated into Snapchat’s animated selfie “lenses.”

If it proves to be true, the deal is certainly going to be a big plus for Apple and we may expect some builtin features in upcoming iPhones that eliminates the need of too many apps!
